What is Stabilization Theory?

Stabilization Theory (ST) is a structural theory of how configurations exist over time. It asks what makes a specified configuration become or remain distinguishable as the configuration being tracked. ST proposes that this relation can be analyzed through the same pressure–constraint–stabilization architecture across radically different domains.

Core Architecture

ST represents stabilization through the relation S = P + C. Analysis begins by specifying the configuration and difference being tracked; the diagram below shows the full architecture.

Scope

Domain Universality

ST advances a claim of domain universality at the level of existence: any configuration that exists can be analyzed through the same pressure–constraint–stabilization architecture. The claim concerns structural roles, not substantive sameness. Systems may differ radically in substrate, mechanism, scale, organization, and evidentiary basis while instantiating the same structural relation.

Amanda Kenderes is the originator of Stabilization Theory, a cross-domain framework developed from her earlier research on communication. Her work examines whether heterogeneous physical, biological, cognitive, social, and institutional configurations can be analyzed through a common structural grammar while preserving domain-specific mechanisms and standards of evidence.
